Latī poetry, as one of the most significant manifestations of folk literature, reflects the daily lives, social concerns, and protests of the marginalized classes in Iranian society during the contemporary period (1921–1979). This poetic style, through the use of colloquial language, humor, irony, and a simple structure, has functioned as an artistic medium for expressing social and cultural problems. The present study offers a comprehensive analysis of the literary and social characteristics of this genre and examines its impact on representing societal transformations. The findings indicate that Latī poetry, in addition to its literary value, has played a crucial role in elucidating the social conditions of Iran. Using qualitative analysis, the study explores the linguistic, rhetorical, and social content elements of these poems. Results show that conversational language, humor and irony, simple and rhythmic structure, and the use of slang and colloquial expressions are the most prominent literary features of Latī poetry. On the other hand, these poems have significantly reflected social issues such as poverty, inequality, and public dissent. This research, by providing a comprehensive analysis of Latī poetry, contributes to a better understanding of the status of this poetic form in contemporary Iranian literature and lays the groundwork for further studies in the fields of folk literature and the sociology of literature.
