Body language and semiotics of human emotions in Layla and Majnun

This article examines the body language and semiotics of human emotions in the story of Lily and Majnun by Nizami Ganja-i. Focusing on emotions such as generosity, moderation, sacrifice, falling in love, caution, submission, and contentment, this research shows how these emotions are depicted in the form of nonverbal signs and body language of the characters. Using semiotic and social psychological analytical methods, this research examines how these emotions are reflected in the physical movements, facial expressions, and symbolic behaviors of the characters in the story. In this regard, special emphasis is placed on the relationship that is formed between emotional signs and concepts in the text, especially how these concepts are transmitted to the reader through nonverbal signs, such as giving away property and possessions, accepting distance from the beloved, and other physical and symbolic behaviors. This research also shows how Nizami uses body language and subtle signs to embody and convey moral and human concepts, and thus, the story of Layla and Majnun is not limited to the narrative of a passionate love, but rather contains deep social and psychological messages that lie deep in the behaviors and body language of the characters.
