Analyzing the Narrative Structure and Imagery in Abbas Maroufi's Novels: Examining the Impact of Artistic Structure on Storytelling

Abstract

This study analyzes the narrative structure and imagery in the works of Abbas Maroufi, a prominent contemporary Persian author. The primary aim of this research is to examine how narrative techniques and imagery contribute to thematic cohesion and depth, as well as how they impact the reader’s experience. Through a descriptive-analytical approach, key narrative elements—such as characterization, perspective, time, and setting—are examined alongside various imagery techniques, including simile, metaphor, and symbolism. Findings reveal that Maroufi’s use of artistic techniques and imagery offers readers a multi-layered and meaningful experience of storytelling. Symbolism, as a significant tool in Maroufi’s work, artistically portrays complex human and social concepts, guiding readers toward a deeper understanding of characters and story themes. Moreover, the interaction between form and content in Maroufi’s works ensures that each narrative element functions cohesively, contributing to the overall integrity of the story. This artistic structure not only provides aesthetic appeal but also serves as a powerful means of fostering an emotional and intellectual connection with the reader. The study concludes that the narrative structure and imagery in Maroufi’s works play a vital role in creating a distinctive and meaningful reader experience. It also offers a foundation for future artistic and narrative analyses in contemporary Persian literature.
