Abstract

In the works of Sadegh Hedayat, the highly skilled and beloved contemporary writer of Persian literature, love for life is presented as one of the central and vital themes. This profound and multilayered concept, serving as a core axis in Hedayat’s oeuvre, influences themes of humanity and human relationships, life in urban and rural settings, social critique, and social anthropology. Among the enduring elements in his writings is the concept of love for life. The results and findings of this research indicate that Hedayat, both in his life and in his works, addresses this theme in a unique and comprehensive manner, exploring it from various angles and dimensions. Through strong and prominent characters, he depicts this philosophical and human element, thereby acquainting the reader with the depth and fluctuations of life. One of Sadegh Hedayat’s most significant works that illustrates the concept of love for life is the novel The Blind Owl. In this work, Hedayat, through the main character—referred to as "the Owl"—articulates a grand philosophy concerning life, love, and its meaning and purpose. With an anthropological and sociological lens, he portrays the concept of life as a sensory and ontological narrative, introducing the reader to deep reflection and contemplation.
